SKU Columns is a Chrome extension that adds columns to the Products list in your Shopify admin. This page lists what it reads, what leaves your browser and what it stores.

The short version: your product data stays in your browser. Apart from the reads from Shopify itself, two small requests leave it, a license check to Polar and a settings fetch from this site, and neither one carries product data.

Product data stays in your browser

On the Products list in your admin, the extension reads the product ids of the rows on the page you opened. For those products it asks Shopify for the SKU, barcode, price, compare-at price and variant data, through your own logged-in Shopify session, the same way your admin loads its own pages. The request goes from your browser to admin.shopify.com and the answer comes back to your browser.

Shopify answers with the full variant records, and the extension uses only the fields it shows. That data is used to draw the columns you turned on. It is never sent to us or to anyone else, and it is kept in memory while the page is open, never written to storage.

The extension only does this on admin.shopify.com, once for each Products page you open. It does not read other sites, and it does not page through your catalog in the background.

License check: your key goes to Polar once a day

SKU Columns is a paid extension, so it checks your license with Polar, our payment provider. It sends your license key when you enter it, and then once a day. Polar answers whether your subscription is active. Nothing about your store or your products is in that request.

Like any web server, Polar sees the IP address and browser the request comes from. Polar's own privacy policy is at polar.sh/legal/privacy.

Settings fetch: a small file from this site

The extension also fetches skucolumns.com/flags.json, a short file of on and off switches. It lets us pause the extension quickly if Shopify changes the Products page or a version misbehaves. The extension fetches it every 15 minutes while Chrome is running, and at most every 2 minutes while you use the Products page if our site is not answering.

The request carries no product data and no license key. This site is hosted on Cloudflare, which logs the request like any web request, with your IP address and browser details. The site itself uses no cookies, analytics or tracking scripts.

What is stored on your computer

The extension keeps a few things in Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local):

• your column settings for each store, including the per-store on and off switch
• your license state: the key, the date and result of the last check, and the stores it was used on (the name after /store/ in your admin address)
• the last copy of the settings file, so the extension keeps working between fetches
• the result of the last page check, which records whether the Products page looked the way the extension expects and when the columns last worked

This storage stays in your Chrome profile and is not synced to your other devices. Nothing stored is sent anywhere except the license key, which goes to Polar for the check described above. Chrome deletes all of it when you uninstall the extension.

Limited Use

Our use of the data SKU Columns reads complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. For the product data the extension reads from your Shopify admin, that means:

• It is used only to show the columns and variant SKUs you asked for, on the page you opened.
• It is not transferred to us or to anyone else.
• It is never sold, and it is never used for advertising or to decide on credit or lending.
• No person reads it. The one exception is something you choose to send us yourself, like a screenshot in a support email, which we read only to help you with that problem.

Your license key is handled differently, because checking it means sending it: it goes to Polar, and only to check your subscription. Polar sees it, and so do we, in our Polar dashboard. Nobody else does, and it is not used for anything else.

When you pay or write to us

Polar sells the subscription as the merchant of record, so it handles your payment and billing details under its own privacy policy. From Polar we see the name and email address on your order and the order itself, never your card number, and we use them only to run your subscription and to answer you.

If you email us, we get your address and whatever you write, and we use them only to reply. The support link in the popup opens a draft in your own mail app, and nothing is sent until you press send.

How to stop

• To stop it on one store, turn it off with the switch in the popup. The subscription keeps running.
• To remove it, uninstall it from chrome://extensions, which also deletes everything it stored. This does not cancel the subscription.
• To stop paying, cancel the subscription from the Polar customer portal link in your receipt email. This is the step that ends billing.
